1099-R Distribution Codes

The Internal Revenue Service has released the 2004 Form 1099-R instructions. Several changes have been made to the distribution codes used in Box 7. This affects distribution codes 1, 2, J, Q, and T. This article examines the significant changes.

Form 1042-S Instructions

The Internal Revenue Service has released the 2004 Form 1042-S instructions. Several new income codes and a new recipient code have been added. In addition, a list of valid withholding tax rates have been specified. This article examines these changes in detail.

HSAs - Transition Relief

The Internal Revenue Service has published a notice that provides transition relief for individuals in states where high deductible health plans are not available because of state laws. This will allow individuals to contribute to an HSA who would otherwise qualify as eligible individuals but for a non-compliant health plan.
